Maxwell, while in post-production on Gods and Generals, is working on the screenplay with hopes of putting this sequel to Gettysburg before the cameras by next summer.Gods and Generals, Ted Turner and Ron Maxwell's followup to 1993's Gettysburg, wants to be a quintessential Civil War epic. And, not of least importance, the site reports that Turner Pictures has optioned the rights to the novel The Last Full Measure by Jeff Shaara. Tambourine Man, Bob Dylan, has written and just finished recording a seven-minute end-titles song, "Crossing Over the Green Mountain." Says Maxwell, "The poetry of the lyrics, the driving rhythms, the melodic line – it's classic Dylan." More than a dozen behind-the-scenes photos have been added to the Gods and Generals gallery.

Beyond the release-date news, the site offers more new and notable items. This twenty-minute preview will first be shown at the Antietam reenactment, at Antietam National Battlefield Park, Sharpsburg, Maryland, in September, and then at the Corps of Cadets at West Point Military Academy, New York, in mid-November.

Also of note, there will be two "Special Previews" for Gods and Generals. Now, unfortunately he's going to have to wait another couple months to see Gods and Generals, director Ron Maxwell's prequel to his 1993 film Gettysburg.Īccording to Ron Maxwell's official site, instead of opening in September, Gods and Generals will open in limited release in December, with an expanded release in late January, 2003. Driving in Maryland with him is like getting a Guided Civil War Tour. Like a serious Star Wars fan knows the miniscule aspects of Star Wars, he knows everything about anything to do with the Civil War. He's not a reenactor or anything like that, but, if he had the time, I suppose he would be. Gods and Generals is the one movie, above all, that my brother Topher is looking forward to.
